Media Collective submits a letter of protest to the President's Office

A letter of protest was presented by the media collective at the Office of the President today, Monday, October 11, 2021. This was received, on behalf of the head of state, by Minister Albert Ramdin of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation (Bibis). In the letter, journalists and reporters from the collective express their dissatisfaction mainly with the long introductions and the manner of responses during the various press conferences.

According to Vishmohanie Thomas, the journalists are not on a warpath with the government, but are striving for better cooperation. They would like to see a better organization of the press conferences, a better question and answer system during the briefings and that all ministers make themselves available to answer questions from the press. We would like to see these changes at the next press moment.

“The media simply wants transparency and efficiency with regard to the flow of information from the government to the media. Having the Communication Service Suriname (CDS) and the Public Communication Directorate creates a lot of uncertainty for the media when it comes to obtaining information,” said Thomas. It is stated that a central communication point will be established for the government.

In the presence of Alven Roosveld and Stanley Dijksteel, Minister Ramdin reassured journalists and reporters that better cooperation options will be explored.
